Key Responsibilities

  • •Shape hardware choices and firmware design for new embedded platforms, collaborating with electrical engineers and validating on prototypes with customers quickly.
  • •Bring up new boards and platforms from early silicon, including configuring I/O and debugging system initialization so hardware becomes a product.
  • •Own firmware layers that enable reliable field behavior, including peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, power and connectivity management, and device firmware updates.
  • •Optimize battery-powered sensors and gateways by designing protocols and hardware management to extend device life.
  • •Partner with product, full-stack, mobile, and quality engineers so the firmware-produced data arrives intact and remains useful for operational workflows; at Staff level, raise the team’s technical ceiling through reviews and consensus building.

Key Requirements

  • •8+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems on products shipped to real customers and surviving field conditions.
  • •Fluency in C, including ability to debug low-level issues (compiler behavior, linker maps, stack traces, corrupted heaps).
  • •Substantial bare-metal and RTOS experience (e.g., Zephyr, FreeRTOS) with knowledge of scheduling, memory, and timing.
  • •Experience bringing up new boards (first power-on of unproven hardware with electrical engineers) and debugging issues across code, libraries, schematics, or parts.
  • •Strong low-level interface fluency (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC) and hands-on bench debugging using lab equipment (oscilloscope, network analyzer, RF spectrum analyzer).
