Job Summary

Own flight control law design and the system identification that powers it across a family of airframes. Blend classical and learning-based control approaches, from tuned control laws to reinforcement-learning policies trained in simulation and validated on hardware. Build and validate models, keep the simulator aligned for sim-to-real transfer, and run simulation/SITL/HITL + Monte Carlo campaigns, iterating from flight logs while mentoring junior GNC engineers.
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
Workplace: Onsite
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Software Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • •Design excitation maneuvers and fit airframe models from flight data with quantified error bounds.
  • •Develop and tune flight control laws, including inner rate/attitude loops through outer position loops, with allocation and gain scheduling across the airframe family and flight envelope.
  • •Maintain sim-to-real fidelity by keeping the in-house simulator aligned with the identified model so simulation control transfers to the aircraft.
  • •Translate stability derivatives and aerodynamic coefficient tables into flying control.
  • •Verify across simulation, SITL, and HITL (including Monte Carlo campaigns), fly and iterate from logs, and mentor junior control and GNC engineers.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree in aerospace, controls, robotics, or a related STEM field, with a strong academic record.
  • •Hands-on system identification and control experience on multirotor or fixed-wing platforms, validated in flight, with depth in at least one of MPC, INDI, or geometric control.
  • •Real-time embedded control implementation on constrained targets, split between a microcontroller and a companion computer.
  • •Familiarity with reinforcement learning and simulation-based training, with the judgment to determine when learned policies outperform classical designs.
  • •Ability to communicate control and test results to engineers and senior stakeholders, with disciplined experimentation and validation.
