Job Summary

Handle your own caseload to progress property, risks & coverage costs claims through to resolution. Draft budgets, points of dispute, bills, and schedules of costs, conduct detailed assessment work, and negotiate settlements by telephone within SLAs and KPIs. Provide clear client updates, liaise with insurers, instruct counsel, and advocate at conferences, mediations, and court hearings while ensuring compliance with SRA standards.

Key Responsibilities

•Progress each file from receipt of papers through to resolution of costs within SLAs, KPIs, and MI requirements.
•Proactively review cases to formulate initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
•Prepare costs schedules, bills for costs litigation, points of dispute, and consider replies.
•Use telephone negotiations to put forward meritorious arguments and negotiate settlement within agreed parameters.
•Instruct counsel and attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings, mediations, and court hearings to conduct advocacy, including remote and in person.

Key Requirements

•2+ years’ experience as a costs draftsperson handling your own caseload (claimant or defendant).
•Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD.
•Experience of client liaison, taking instructions and providing advice verbally and in writing.
•Experience of the Detailed Assessment process, including Bills, Schedules of Costs, Budgets, Points of Dispute, and replies.
•Good telephone negotiation skills and an understanding of current cost case law and insurance litigation practice.
