Key Responsibilities

  • •Promote a strong safety culture by following site-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements throughout field activities.
  • •Perform construction monitoring, subgrade evaluation, Portable Nuclear Gauge testing, soil-property verification, and produce clear reporting to support safe construction decisions.
  • •Monitor geotechnical drilling investigations using auger, sonic, mud rotary, cone penetration testing, and specialty techniques while classifying samples and completing soil and groundwater testing.
  • •Install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation such as vibrating wire and standpipe piezometers, inclinometers, ShapeAccelArrays, monitoring wells, data loggers, and telemetry/remote monitoring systems.
  • •Coordinate field records, automated monitoring data, contractors, and laboratory/field-testing programs, and communicate findings with engineers, clients, and construction teams.

Key Requirements

  • •Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • •Practical capability supporting drilling programs, soil sampling, test pits, geotechnical field investigations, construction monitoring, and soil/groundwater testing.
  • •Knowledge of soil classification, subgrade evaluation, foundation preparation, field documentation, and quality-focused construction practices.
  • •Experience with geotechnical instrumentation, data loggers, telemetry, remote monitoring systems, field data collection, and technical reporting tools.
  • •Valid Alberta driver’s licence and ability to work safely in a fly-in/fly-out oil sands camp on a two-weeks-in/two-weeks-out rotation.
