Job Summary

Lead the People Data data engineering efforts for Okta’s Data and Insights team, architecting and maintaining high-scale, reliable data solutions across the employee lifecycle. Partner with People (HR), product, analytics, and data science to ensure data availability and integrity, implement data quality frameworks and governance, and drive adoption of consistent modeling, documentation, and metric governance. Mentor engineers and modernize the platform using AWS and lakehouse/warehouse technologies.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, build, and evolve high-scale data solutions that act as reference architecture and simplify data access.
•Develop data quality frameworks including monitoring, anomaly detection, alerting, governance, lineage tracking, and change management for externally reported numbers.
•Drive consistent data modeling patterns, naming conventions, documentation norms, and metric governance standards across the data organization.
•Lead cross-functional technical initiatives across data verticals to accelerate delivery and harden data systems.
•Mentor and raise the technical bar by leading task forces, fostering engineering excellence, and guiding long-term data platform direction while implementing data contracts and schema evolution practices.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 176,000 - 270,600 annually

Key Requirements

•10+ years in a data engineering role with proven senior/lead experience, ideally with Federal government compliance and security requirements.
•Expert-level SQL experience and ETL/ELT tooling (Airflow, dbt), plus MPP databases such as Snowflake and Redshift.
•Extensive hands-on AWS experience, including S3, Lambda, EMR, ECR, and EKS.
•Expertise in HR/People data (candidate lifecycle, employee records, compensation, organizational data) and designing recruiting analytics and workforce planning models.
•Experience building batch and real-time pipelines with Spark and Kafka, and working with lakehouse/warehouse architectures (Databricks, Snowflake) and file formats (Iceberg, Delta).
