Develop conceptual-level airframe architecture for a next-generation all-electric eVTOL, including layout and sizing of fuselage, wing, tail, and nacelle structures. Build parametric structural models, apply classical sizing methods, and predict aeroelastic behavior (flutter/whirl-flutter and modal characteristics). Collaborate with vehicle and powertrain architects on loads, OML definition, packaging, and weight margins, while trading structural layouts and materials for weight, manufacturability, and cost.

Location: San Jose
Workplace: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full time

Key Responsibilities

  • •Develop conceptual-level airframe architecture and parametric structural models for fuselage, wing, tail, and nacelle structures.
  • •Size major structural components using classical analytical methods and cross-sectional analysis tools such as sectionproperties, including conceptual FEM.
  • •Predict and assess conceptual-level aeroelastic behavior (flutter and whirl-flutter margins) and structural modal characteristics using beam-based aeroelastic tools such as ASWING.
  • •Partner with vehicle architecture on loads and OML definition and identify governing structural sizing cases (e.g., maneuver, gust, ground, fatigue).
  • •Trade structural layouts and lead material selection (composite vs. metallic vs. hybrid), while assessing packaging/volume and generating structural weight estimates and margins.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 152,800 - 227,600 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Aircraft structural design background at the conceptual or preliminary design level, with strong interest in rotorcraft/tiltrotor/eVTOL experience.
  • •Strong aeroelastic analysis experience, including flutter and whirl-flutter prediction and structural modal analysis.
  • •Experience with structural sizing methods (classical beam/panel analysis and weight-estimation relationships/CERs), including tools such as sectionproperties.
  • •Ability to use conceptual/preliminary structural and aeroelastic sizing tools such as ASWING, NeoCASS, OpenAeroStruct, pyNastran, or SUAVE.
  • •Strong Python experience for structural sizing and analysis automation, plus parametric geometry via CAD (CATIA/NX/SolidWorks) or code-based tools (OpenVSP/CadQuery).
