Job Summary

Build and improve the kernel and driver-level Android system for Stripe Terminal’s embedded payments platforms. Bring up new devices, debug issues, and optimize performance across hardware, firmware, and software teams. Design and maintain Android services and drivers for constrained environments with strong reliability and security. Own defect resolution and collaborate with QA to ensure automated test coverage, while working closely with global teams and external hardware vendors.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop kernel and driver-level Android system components, including building, troubleshooting, and writing automated tests for embedded payments platforms.
•Bring up new devices and lead debugging and performance tuning across multiple hardware/firmware/software teams.
•Design, implement, and maintain drivers and Android services for constrained environments that meet reliability and security requirements.
•Own work streams covering hardware bring-up, peripheral drivers and communication, and power/performance management optimization.
•Analyze bug reports, manage defect resolution, conduct code reviews, and partner with QA to ensure test cases are created, maintained, and executed.

Key Requirements

•4+ years of software engineering experience in device driver development, embedded systems, or operating systems.
•2+ years working with mobile or other connected devices.
•Experience with automated testing, build systems, and inter-component communication protocols (e.g., UART, GPIO, SPI, I2C).
•Proficiency in C/C++ or Kotlin/Java.
•Knowledge of operating systems (custom Android, embedded Linux, or RTOS) and ability to add, monitor, and parse telemetry data.
