Location: Austin, San Francisco, Seattle
Workplace: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Software Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • •Build and own the facility side of the energy control contract, including the protocol layer, gateway service, and API integrations with third-party plant controllers.
  • •Design and evolve the messaging and state layer that computes facility load intent from live telemetry and publishes it every second with a forecast.
  • •Own data contracts and engineering standards so other teams can build reliably as the platform expands to new sites and counterparties.
  • •Build the constraint execution path to answer what the facility can achieve and by when, within second-level deadlines.
  • •Develop production observability (latency, staleness, watchdog health) to prove conformance and surface missed budgets before incidents.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 250,000 - 300,000 annually
Equity and Bonus:Equity

Key Requirements

  • •Experience with high-throughput messaging systems (e.g., NATS, Kafka) at real scale, including understanding failure modes in production.
  • •Designed time-series data models using ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, or a comparable system, balancing write throughput, query performance, and schema evolution.
  • •Instrumented production services with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and treated metrics/alerting as part of shipping.
  • •Built and owned production services that other teams depend on, and avoid shipping code that you would not want to be paged for at night.
  • •Designed before building: named patterns, compared alternatives, and refactored systems when the original design stopped fitting the problem.
