Job Summary

Support the FAA’s Airport Research Division by operating unmanned aircraft and helping assess concepts for safely improving airport safety and efficiency. Develop flight test plans, procedures, and briefing/training materials, and perform in-process and final testing of multiple systems under ambient and environmental conditions. Collaborate with manufacturers, vendors, technical standards groups, research centers, and regulators to enable safe UAS integration into the NAS.

•Provide expertise in the operation of unmanned aircraft.
•Develop flight test plans and procedures for UAS operations.
•Develop briefing and training materials to support flight operations.
•Plan and perform in-process and final testing of analog, digital, microwave, optical, and mechanical systems under ambient and environmental conditions.
•Collaborate with stakeholders including manufacturers, vendors, standards organizations, academic/research centers, and government regulators to support UAS integration into the NAS.

Key Requirements

•Be Part 107 Certified and have documented hours of safely operating UAS platforms (40+ hours; minimum is 20 hours).

•Provide expertise in operating unmanned aircraft and support safe, efficient UAS integration into the NAS.
•Have FAA Suitability Background security clearance.
