Job Summary

Set up and operate machining equipment by reading blueprints, selecting workholding and cutting parameters, positioning tools, and producing machined parts that meet specifications. Perform operator-level maintenance, maintain preventive maintenance for machine shop tools and support systems, and follow safety procedures and housekeeping requirements. Assist maintenance mechanics/electricians as needed and help train less experienced machinists while working with a variety of material types, including nonmetallic materials.

Key Responsibilities

•Study blueprints or layouts to visualize machining requirements and plan the sequence of operations.
•Select workholding method and securely position and secure workpieces on machine tables, chucks, centers, or fixtures.
•Set and adjust machine parameters (feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut) and tool selection; operate controls to feed and position tools against workpieces.
•Start coolant flow and observe/regulate tool position and action during machining; verify conformance to specifications.
•Perform preventive maintenance, housekeeping, and follow safety procedures; assist maintenance mechanics/electricians with troubleshooting and installation as needed.

Key Requirements
