Job Summary

Safely assist highway, utility, and grade crews with a variety of manual construction tasks across on-site plant and job locations. Prepare ground surfaces by removing debris and leveling/raking dirt, set string markers, and set up fencing, barricades, and safety cones. Support paving work by shoveling and raking asphalt, handling manhole and water line prep, and cleaning tools and equipment at the end of each day.

Key Responsibilities

•Safely perform a variety of construction duties to assist highway, utility, and grade crews or work at various on-site plant locations.
•Prepare ground surfaces for road building and remove debris out of the construction path.
•Operate ground compactors and help level and rake dirt for paved areas, including setting string markers.
•Set up fencing, barricades, and safety cones to secure the work area as needed; prepare manhole covers, openings, and water lines.
•Assist paving work by walking behind the paver machine to shovel and rake asphalt, dig out buried manhole covers/water valve boxes, and clean tools and equipment each day.

Key Requirements

•Performs a variety of construction duties safely under supervisor instruction and without direct supervision except for more complicated jobs.
•Prepares ground surfaces for road building by removing debris from the construction path.
•Operates ground compactors, levels out and rakes dirt, sets string markers, and removes items within the area to be paved.
•Sets up fencing, barricades, and/or safety cones to block off the work area as needed.
•High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
