Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide strong, accountable leadership across the 24/7 national JL Primary Transport operation and oversee a team of managers, partners, and drivers.
  • •Ensure full legislative compliance across transport operations, including EU driving regulations, the Working Time Directive, and health & safety guidelines.
  • •Manage operational budgets, control costs, and perform variance and root-cause analyses to drive cost-effective performance.
  • •Oversee fleet operations (tractors, trailers, and rigid vehicles) and drive progress toward operational sustainability goals.
  • •Support strategic transport planning and operational change by collaborating across Central Transport, Customer Delivery Hubs, Waitrose, and e-commerce teams.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 46,100 - 69,100 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • •Experience leading a team in a Transport or Distribution environment.
  • •Certificate of Professional Competency qualification for Transport Managers (Road Haulage), or ability to achieve it within an agreed timeframe.
  • •Ensure legislative compliance across transport operations, including EU driving regulations, the Working Time Directive, and health & safety guidelines.
  • •Ability to oversee operational delivery and manage performance constructively, including coaching and skill development for direct reports.
