Job Summary

Work as a Mechanical Design Technician focused on building services. You’ll perform mechanical services designs and calculations, create and coordinate BIM models, and produce CAD drafting in support of multidisciplinary projects. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you’ll take ownership of defined design and modelling packages across all project stages, support clash detection and model audits, and assist with tender documentation and site-related technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform mechanical services designs and calculations in accordance with applicable standards (including SANS and SANS 10400) and applicable international standards.
•Create detailed BIM models and CAD drafts and coordinate multidisciplinary design work using Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and BIM360.
•Carry out engineering calculations, equipment sizing, system layouts, and technical assessments for the disciplines worked on.
•Manage defined work packages independently, including supporting BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), project BIM standards, model quality, and clash detection reviews.
•Support project delivery across stages by assisting with tender documentation (BOQs, quantity take-offs, equipment schedules), construction administration, and site inspections/technical issue resolution.

Key Requirements

•B.Tech. Eng. (Mechanical Engineering) or National Diploma (Mechanical Engineering) (NQF 6), or equivalent qualification.
•Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design and BIM modelling.
•Demonstrated competency in the design and BIM modelling of at least two mechanical disciplines (e.g., HVAC, Wet Services/Public Health, Medical Gas Systems, Mechanical Utilities, Fuel Systems, Vertical Transportation, Fire Engineering Services).
•Ability to perform Mechanical Services designs and calculations in accordance with applicable SANS standards and SANS 10400 requirements.
•Good working knowledge of Revit and BIM360.
