Job Summary

Build and evolve core backend systems that power GitLab’s Data Insights Platform and Siphon. You’ll design scalable ingestion, transport, replication, storage, querying, and deployment paths, including gRPC integration with the GitLab Rails application. Own key architecture for reliability and operability across SaaS, Dedicated, and Self-Managed environments, troubleshoot distributed systems in production, and partner with Infrastructure and Data teams to deliver platform capabilities downstream.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, build, and evolve backend services in Go for Data Insights Platform and Siphon, covering ingestion, transport, replication, storage, querying, and deployment paths.
•Own key parts of the backend architecture for Data Insights Platform, Siphon, and the Query API, including gRPC integration with the GitLab Rails application.
•Contribute to replication, buffering, query-serving, and query-oriented storage patterns, including Siphon, NATS (or similar messaging), and ClickHouse-backed storage.
•Drive production readiness and deployment across GitLab environments with attention to rollout safety and long-term operational readiness.
•Debug and improve complex distributed systems in production, focusing on performance bottlenecks, scaling limits, failure recovery paths, and observability gaps.
