Job Summary

Lead technical system/product safety engineering activities across complex engineering programmes, supporting bids and estimating safety work packages. Develop and implement safety plans in line with the Thales UK Safety Management System, and produce and maintain robust safety cases supported by evidence. Apply systems safety methods (FTA/ETA/FMECA and related analyses) to identify and manage hazards, risks, and ALARP arguments, while mentoring junior safety engineers and guiding senior stakeholders.

•Lead and sometimes undertake systems safety activities and assessments to identify and manage hazards and risks in multidisciplinary teams.
•Ensure products are supported by robust safety cases and supporting evidence.
•Apply and leverage systems safety methods (e.g., FTA/ETA/FMECA and related analyses) and help develop safety cases and ALARP arguments while mentoring junior safety engineers.

Key Requirements

•Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM subject area.
•Experience in systems safety/product safety engineering within a complex, safety-focused and regulated organisation (e.g., rail, aerospace, nuclear, oil & gas).
•Experience working to a safety management system and implementing it at project level.
•Demonstrable experience managing engineering work packages and budgets.
•Extensive knowledge of systems safety techniques and safety case development, including producing evidence and ALARP arguments.
