Job Summary

Support the day-to-day delivery of library and literacy services at HMP Dovegate as part of the Justice and Immigration team. Help run prison-wide reading strategy, literacy interventions, and engagement activities, including Shannon Trust mentoring and distance learning support. Ensure learning resources are accessible and well maintained, produce performance reports, and work with education, inclusion, and operational teams to improve outcomes for prisoners and their families.

Key Responsibilities

•Assist with the day-to-day running of library and literacy services across HMP Dovegate.
•Support delivery of the Prison-Wide Reading Strategy, including reading assessments, literacy interventions, and reading engagement activities.
•Support the Shannon Trust programme, including mentor training, case management, and ongoing programme development.
•Support distance learning opportunities (including Open University and Prisoners' Education Trust programmes) and maintain learning resources.
•Plan and deliver reading and literacy initiatives and events; produce reports and monitor performance to improve services.

Key Requirements

•Hold a professional qualification in librarianship or information management, such as a Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals accredited qualification at Level 3 or above.
•Have experience working in a library or learning resource centre, ideally within a secure, custodial, or complex environment.
•Have experience delivering literacy programmes, reading strategies, or educational initiatives supporting development and growth.
•Demonstrate strong organisational, communication, and relationship-building skills to engage and motivate a diverse range of people.
•Be confident using library management systems, digital learning platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
