Job Summary

Build and improve the recommendation algorithms powering TikTok’s “for you” and “following” feeds, optimizing user acquisition and retention across the full ranking pipeline (retrieval through re-ranking). Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and product engineers to translate insights into machine learning solutions, run and analyze A/B tests, and iterate. Work with infrastructure teams to enhance end-to-end ML systems for scalability, reliability, efficiency, and stability.

Key Responsibilities

•Implement machine learning algorithms at large scale to improve new user acquisition efficiency and retention across ranking phases including retrieval, ranking, and re-ranking.
•Partner cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and product engineers to formulate problems, design and refine algorithms, and communicate results.
•Run regular A/B tests, analyze outcomes, and iterate on algorithms accordingly.
•Apply end-to-end machine learning systems knowledge and collaborate with infrastructure teams to improve efficiency and stability.
•Develop highly scalable and reliable recommendation systems that connect users with relevant content in real time.

Key Requirements

•Hands-on experience in one or more areas such as recommender systems, machine learning, deep learning, data mining, NLP, causal inference, or multimodal machine learning.
•Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++, with a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.
•Experience with the architecture and implementation of at least one mainstream ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MXNet).
•Good communication and teamwork skills, with a passion for learning new techniques and tackling challenging problems.
•Familiarity with core recommendation system components (retrieval, ranking, re-ranking, cold-start) is a plus but not required.
