Job Summary

Determine mechanical manufacturing methods and ensure required manufacturing processes are available for high-quality, engineered hardware used in life support and thermal control applications. Review drawings for producibility, recommend new technologies and materials, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) and quality compliance.

Key Responsibilities

•Determine mechanical manufacturing methods and ensure required manufacturing processes are available.
•Create manufacturing assembly documentation and conceptual tooling, and provide technical assistance for assembling engineered hardware for life support and thermal control applications.
•Support failure investigations by determining root causes, implementing corrective actions, and disposing of nonconforming hardware to drive continuous improvement.
•Develop and sequence complex manufacturing operations and specify procedures for tool/equipment fabrication, assembly, disassembly, repair, and manufacturing processes.
•Ensure manufacturing processes and procedures comply with EH&S and quality requirements; identify improvement opportunities and estimate costs, schedules, and manufacturing procedures/policies.

Key Requirements

•Typically requires a degree in STEM and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
•Familiarity with a modeling/design package such as Creo.
•Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, machining concepts, and special processing such as welding and brazing.
•Knowledge of continuous improvement methods and demonstrated use of tools such as Shainin Red X, Taguchi Design of Experiments, DMAIC, Ishikawa, and Fault Tree Analysis.
•Experience with an MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) system; prior life support and/or thermal control hardware experience is highly desirable.
