Key Responsibilities

  • •Implement biodiversity programs in compliance with environmental commitments from the EIA studies, focused on micropropagation and seed conservation.
  • •Lead and supervise in vitro cultivation/reproduction efforts for plant species of concern for the Cobre Panamá project.
  • •Manage the micropropagation laboratory to propagate and conserve plant species and meet ESIA biodiversity conservation/restoration commitments.
  • •Coordinate the seed conservation bank and native plant nurseries for restoration and conservation inside and outside the site.
  • •Supervise laboratory work using aseptic techniques, media preparation, and tissue culture to support in vitro success.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree in Biology with a focus in Microbiology and Parasitology; a degree or master’s in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field is advantageous.
  • •Strong experience with micropropagation techniques and plant tissue culture, including work with endangered or rare plant species.
  • •At least 3 years of experience coordinating or supervising microbiology or in vitro propagation laboratory work.
  • •Knowledge of plant conservation principles and techniques, including seed storage, to support ESIA and restoration commitments.
  • •Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Power BI, databases, and GIS systems (e.g., QGIS).
