Key Responsibilities

  • •Contribute to delivery of full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
  • •Review complex HV cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
  • •Undertake cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
  • •Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
  • •Support third-party inspections and FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning activities while coordinating interfaces with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with standards.

Key Requirements

  • •Electrical Engineering degree, or at minimum HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • •Some experience in cable system design engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, with FEED experience essential.
  • •Some experience in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably including National Grid experience.
  • •Basic understanding of onshore cable routing, cable pulling/mechanical forces, and cable burial risk assessments and protection strategies.
  • •Basic knowledge of national and international standards including IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs; experience with third-party inspection and verification is a plus.
