Job Summary

Backend Engineer to build a fraud engine for the Receive Risk squad, delivering high-performance, low-latency distributed services to support Wise’s Acquiring products (QuickPay, Payment links, Invoices, e-commerce). You’ll work closely with Product, Data Science, Fraud Prevention Analysts and Fraud agents to balance rapid shipping of new features with risk control, scalability and reliability.

•Deliver high-performance, low-latency systems with a focus on scalability, reliability and user value.
•Own features end-to-end and work closely with multiple teams across the organisation to ship value.
•Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, mentoring teammates when needed.

Salary: GBP 87,000 - 111,000 annually

•Distributed systems experience with microservices architecture and backend services handling large-scale traffic.
•Proven ability to deliver high-performance, low-latency systems with focus on speed, scalability and reliability.
•Strong product-oriented mindset with end-to-end ownership of features and cross-team collaboration.
•Proficiency in Java (preferred) or solid experience with similar backend languages.
•Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, and strong SQL/relational database knowledge.
