Job Summary

Consultant Ecologist within AECOM’s UK&I Nature team working on ecology-focused field surveys, data analysis, and ecological impact assessments across infrastructure projects in energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport. You’ll lead survey activities, contribute to EcIA processes, and mentor teams while benefiting from hybrid working, training, and cross-project collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

•Organise and carry out desk studies and field-based habitat, botanical, protected and non-native invasive species surveys.
•Analyze, evaluate and present ecological data, supporting Ecological Impact Assessments and mitigation design.
•Safely deliver protected species and habitat surveys; evaluate results and design/implement mitigation strategies.
•Perform the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects.
•Collaborate with the team on work-winning, project management and mentoring within the Ecology group.

Key Requirements

•Experience in an ecology-related role in public and/or private sector, designing, coordinating and leading field surveys.
•Knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy, particularly Wales, and the Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) process.
•Experience in botanical identification and Phase 1 Habitat / NVC surveys and/or protected species surveys (bats or dormouse).
•Adaptable and flexible approach to meet peaks in demand, including longer/unusual hours and some away-from-home work.
•Strong report writing skills with experience producing ecological reports and advising clients and stakeholders.
