Key Responsibilities

  • •Scale the infrastructure behind Notion’s database block to make databases faster and more reliable as usage and concurrency grow.
  • •Work on database load performance and reliability, addressing bottlenecks and iterating until P50/P95 performance improves.
  • •Contribute to a backend platform between infrastructure and product that other teams can build on.
  • •Support high-volume writes from agents and improve system flexibility that makes Notion databases powerful and hard to scale.
  • •Partner with senior engineers and product-facing teams to evolve Collections through better architecture, observability, documentation, and system boundaries.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Strong backend engineering fundamentals with interest in performance, reliability, scalability, and operating under real customer load.
  • •Curiosity about distributed systems, microservices, and data-layer trade-offs, with an ability to learn quickly and reason from first principles.
  • •Practical comfort with JavaScript or TypeScript, or the ability to ramp quickly in a codebase where they matter.
  • •Grit and truth-seeking in technical problem solving, iterating when performance targets like P50/P95 aren’t met.
