Key Responsibilities

  • •Design and build a functional fabrication/prototype space, including layout, equipment selection, procurement, utilities, safety, and IT.
  • •Develop and document CNC machining processes (multi-axis, metal and plastic), including repeatable jigs/fixtures and work instructions.
  • •Run shop operations: scheduling, job tracking, equipment uptime/maintenance, consumables, inventory, and budget.
  • •Hire, manage, and grow shop teams (CNC engineers/operators, technicians, and support staff), setting priorities and maintaining predictable turnaround times.
  • •Own safety and quality judgment: training/PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, hazardous materials handling, and early design reviews for manufacturability and process risk.

Key Requirements

  • •12+ years in prototype machine shop, pilot line, or manufacturing engineering roles, including at least 3 years managing a shop or team.
  • •Hands-on CNC machining mastery (setup, fixturing, CAM basics) plus at least one joining/forming process (e.g., ultrasonic welding, thermoforming, laser processing).
  • •Experience standing up or expanding a shop/line: equipment selection, layout, procurement, and commissioning.
  • •Strong command of mechanical drawings, GD&T, metrology, and engineering materials (plastics, metals, composites).
