Key Responsibilities

  • •Design, build, and operate Roblox’s Envoy-based application gateway fleet, owning L7 routing, authentication, rate limiting, and traffic policy end to end.
  • •Drive reliability and scale improvements through capacity/headroom modeling, failure isolation, blast-radius reduction, and progressive delivery of config and code changes.
  • •Collaborate with internal networking and service teams to deliver a coherent end-to-end traffic model across clusters and regions.
  • •Serve as a primary escalation point for complex edge and gateway issues, debugging Envoy configuration/internals and xDS control plane behavior, including TLS termination and load-balancing components.
  • •Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in testing, deployment, and reliability engineering.

Key Requirements

  • •3+ years of experience in distributed systems with strong networking architecture expertise (Envoy, Kubernetes).
  • •Deep knowledge of L7 networking concepts including routing, TLS termination and certificate management, authentication/authorization, and rate limiting.
  • •Experience running Kubernetes in production and familiarity with the Kubernetes networking model.
  • •Comfort working with Envoy proxy internals, xDS APIs, and control plane architectures.
  • •Fluency in Go, C/C++, or Rust, plus experience with on-call rotations and a reliability-first mindset.
