Job Summary

Join RTX's Pratt & Whitney Commercial Composites team as a Structural Engineer working onsite on a cross-disciplinary IPT. Lead structural analyses (FEA), support design through conceptual to testing phases, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with suppliers to ensure manufacturability of composite components. Travel ~10% and contribute to weight, durability, and cost targets in a defense/aerospace context.

Key Responsibilities

•Participate on an Integrated Product Team (IPT), collaborating with multiple disciplines to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight
•Provide structural analysis support throughout conceptual, preliminary, & detailed design phases, including validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service
•Perform finite element analysis of homogeneous solid, layered shell, and layered solid (ply-by-ply) models to ensure compliance to engine hardware requirements and testing correlation/validation
•Assist in manufacturing process development at suppliers to ensure manufacturability of component designs and present results to management and external customers
•Mentor and coach developing engineers on the team

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8+ years’ relevant experience in Defense/Aerospace or related industries, OR Advanced Degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience
•U.S. citizenship is required
•Strong experience in structural analysis and finite element methods (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh)
•Knowledge of composite design and manufacturing techniques (hand layup/autoclave, RTM, etc.)
•Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and management; mentoring of developing engineers
