Job Summary

Build and operate Block’s ledgering systems of record for balances, transactions, settlement orchestration, and automated treasury. You’ll design durable ledgering APIs so partner teams can launch new balance/transaction types quickly, emit trustworthy data contracts for finance and reporting, and develop high-volume distributed transaction-processing with careful consistency/availability tradeoffs. You’ll also lead end-to-end technical projects, mentor engineers, and use AI agents to reduce operational toil and improve delivery.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, build, and operate balance and transaction systems of record serving as the financial source of truth.
•Build settlement orchestration to determine how account holders get paid, including schedules, amounts, deposit methods, and withholdings.
•Develop self-serve ledgering APIs with durable semantics and clear contracts for launching new balance/transaction types quickly.
•Design and implement reliable, high-volume distributed transaction-processing systems, making tradeoffs between consistency and availability when needed.
•Operate tier-0/tier-1 financial systems against published SLOs and debug production issues across services and the stack, while mentoring and leading end-to-end projects.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years/degree combination).
•Experience designing and operating distributed, high-throughput, fault-tolerant services, including consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.
•Experience building money-movement systems such as ledgers, double-entry accounting, settlement, or treasury (or drive to develop domain expertise).
•Proficiency in a major programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, or Go) and strong SQL.
•High standards for software architecture and engineering practices, including CI/CD and observability in a complex, high-stakes financial environment.
