Job Summary

Provide legal counsel on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) matters, supporting Rochester Gas and Electric (RGE) and New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) transmission operations. Advise on federal energy laws and market participation requirements, analyze regulatory developments, draft and file FERC/NYISO submissions, and help mitigate regulatory and compliance risks across transactional, litigation, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities

•Advise internal stakeholders and clients on FERC-enforced statutes, rules, and regulations and interpret NYISO market rules and Open Access Transmission Tariffs.
•Draft, review, and file applications, interventions, comments, compliance plans, and other documents required by FERC and/or NYISO, and track/respond to regulatory orders and requests.
•Provide legal advice to in-house clients regarding NYISO market operations, policy changes, and initiatives.
•Identify and mitigate regulatory and compliance risks related to energy market participation and project development.
•Partner with FERC transmission policy and federal government affairs on FERC matters.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 164,000 - 205,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; Bar admission in New York.
•Minimum of six (6) years’ experience practicing energy law focused on federal regulation, FERC, or ISO/RTO operations.
•Demonstrated knowledge of FERC statutes, regulations, orders, and ISO/RTO tariffs and protocols.
•Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory issues into practical advice.
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
