Key Responsibilities

  • •Dispatch and coordinate SHEP patrollers for roadside assistance and roadway incident response.
  • •Monitor field surveillance camera video and other sources to detect and verify events impacting traffic flow and safety.
  • •Log potential and confirmed events and manage traffic lane/shoulder closures using software applications.
  • •Control and monitor Intelligent Transportation Systems devices along freeways, including surveillance cameras and dynamic message signs.
  • •Answer calls and communicate via radio/phone with motorists and first responders; document activity and communications accurately.

Key Requirements

  • •Must remain stationary for long periods monitoring CCTV displays, radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls, and communicating with staff/partner agencies.

  • •Must pass a state and federal criminal history/security background check.
  • •Must complete the post-employment 6-week SCDOT TMC training and performance program to continue employment.
