Job Summary

Lead field operations for complex power testing and energization projects, providing hands-on oversight and technical guidance for day-to-day site activities. Execute and validate protection and control testing on high-voltage utility substations, including protective relay testing with Omicron and Doble tools. Coordinate with engineers and subcontractors, lead crews and safety/quality procedures, document field results digitally, and mentor junior technicians while liaising with clients and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead field operations by providing technical guidance, hands-on execution, and day-to-day oversight for site activities on complex infrastructure projects.
•Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high-voltage substations, including hands-on protective relay testing and validating test sequences against plans and specifications.
•Ensure compliance with safety protocols, job hazard assessments, health and safety procedures, and quality control requirements; participate in briefings.
•Lead and mentor field crews by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and coaching junior/mid-level technicians on procedures, safety practices, and documentation.
•Document and report field activities using field forms and digital data tools, troubleshoot instrumentation issues with minimal supervision, and act as a primary liaison with clients and project leadership.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum 11 years of electrical testing industry experience, including medium/high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
•Advanced expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays and protective schemes (e.g., SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
•Advanced protective relay testing skills, including relay calibration (Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150), CT/PT circuit testing, upload of settings to microprocessor relays, and static/dynamic microprocessor relay testing.
•Proficiency with electrical field testing standards and procedures (NETA, IEEE, NFPA) and testing software/data review tools (ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, AcSELerator Quickset).
