Key Responsibilities

  • •Advise on IP issues arising from development, marketing, deployment, use, and commercialization of digital solutions, AI systems, and other technology.
  • •Advise on IP issues involving trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets related to WSP’s engineering services, solutions, and technologies.
  • •Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related contract provisions and legal documents, including SaaS agreements, EULAs, end-user notices, and AI disclaimers.
  • •Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of IP policies, standards, guidance, and governance processes.
  • •Contribute to IP due diligence and help administer WSP’s IP portfolio (including trademark clearance/registration, patent filings, invention intake, and trade secret protection).

Key Requirements

  • •Qualified to practice law in Québec or another relevant jurisdiction.
  • •Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant intellectual property legal experience (private practice or in-house), ideally including commercial law and AI-related matters.
  • •Sound understanding of IP principles (ownership, licensing, use restrictions, and protection of proprietary rights) with the ability to apply them practically in a business context.
  • •Strong knowledge of IP applicable to a global organization and the ability to interpret and apply legal/regulatory requirements practically.
  • •Exposure to legal issues relating to artificial intelligence, digital technologies, software, and data use, with an interest in deepening these areas.
