Job Summary

Lead the design and development of highly available, scalable monetization platform systems. Own billing infrastructure, usage APIs, usage reporting, and orderability—from proposal and design docs through implementation, testing, rollout, and on-call support. Convert ambiguous problems into executable technical plans, collaborate with engineering, product, business systems, and billing stakeholders, and evolve pipelines and tools that support Fastly’s growing product catalog.

•Mentor and grow engineers through code review, pairing, and technical leadership; participate in on-call rotation.

Key Requirements

•Hands-on experience designing and operating highly available, reliable data pipelines and distributed systems processing large volumes of data at scale (most Staff engineers have at least 7 years related experience).
•5+ years building systems that collect, aggregate, and derive insights from large datasets, including shipping forecasting or reporting features used by stakeholders.
•Drive multi-week efforts end-to-end (design docs through post-launch), turning ambiguous problems into well-defined technical plans.
•Testing and observability practices that improve outcomes, including defining metrics that deliver value.
•Experience with relational and non-relational storage and pub/sub style message queues (e.g., MySQL, BigQuery, Dynamo, Kafka, NSQ, Kinesis).
