Job Summary

Build and evolve Hopper’s HTS commerce platform, improving how humans and AI agents ship safely and quickly. Own features end-to-end across scalable backend systems that connect cardholder behavior to timely offers, partner-facing surfaces, and foundational patterns for new partner experiences. Work asynchronously with senior engineers, PMs, and business partners to define the roadmap, architect solutions in Scala, and design guardrails and feedback loops for reliable AI-assisted development.

Key Responsibilities

•Identify and execute codebase improvements that help humans and AI agents move fast while shipping safely.
•Own features end-to-end, primarily backend systems with partner-facing surfaces, using AI tooling as needed.
•Architect scalable solutions and foundational patterns to efficiently launch new partner experiences.
•Drive asynchronous decisions and consensus with thoughtful documentation and technical specs.
•Collaborate with PMs and business partners to define and refine the roadmap, and share technical vision.

Key Requirements

•Experience with, or a mastery-level willingness to learn, distributed system development in Scala.
•The ability to direct AI agents and automated workflows to build and maintain complex systems, knowing when to step in versus letting them run.
•Experience designing guardrails and feedback loops that keep AI-assisted development productive and reliable.
•Strong product thinking anchored in customer experience and quality/architecture tradeoffs.
•A track record of diving into unknown codebases and delivering results fast.
