Job Summary

Design and deliver full lifecycle cable system engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects across multiple voltage levels. Review and optimize HVAC/HVDC cable designs, perform routing, burial risk, thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations, and run cable rating/system studies. Support cable installation activities, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and coordinate compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid requirements through inspections, testing, and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities

•Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility and concept through detailed design, installation support, and commissioning.
•Review complex HVAC and HVDC cable system designs including route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal/electromagnetic/mechanical calculations.
•Conduct cable rating and system studies such as ampacity, short-circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
•Perform cable installation-related engineering activities including cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
•Collaborate with civil, structural, substation, and OHL teams; participate in client meetings/workshops (including HAZID/HAZOPs) and support inspections, FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning compliance.
•Support interface activity with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify standards compliance (IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs, and others).

Key Requirements

•Strong experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects, including FEED experience.
•Experience working in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably including National Grid experience.
•Knowledge of onshore cable routing and related engineering (cable pulling/mechanical forces, burial risk assessments, protection strategies, cleating, and short-circuit restraint).
•Experience in Quality, Inspection & Test (QIT) for cables and associated systems.
•Knowledge of relevant national and international standards, including IEC and CIGRÉ and NG-TPs.
