Key Responsibilities

  • •Advise research and data teams on data sourcing, licensing, partnerships, and use, and help shape data acquisition strategy as laws and markets evolve.
  • •Coordinate regulatory readiness and model launches, review model documentation and system cards, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • •Support Responsible Scaling Policy work for biological and chemical risk, including capability evaluations and tiered access for biosecurity researchers.
  • •Counsel research teams on societal impacts, economic considerations, alignment, interpretability, model welfare, and beneficial deployments, including review of research design and publications.
  • •Monitor global AI, privacy, copyright, and export-control developments and translate them into practical internal guidance and policy.

Salary: USD 265,000 - 335,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •A JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California or New York preferred).
  • •At least 8 years of legal experience advising technology companies on copyright, privacy, data, and AI regulation, ideally including in-house work on AI/ML products.
  • •Practical ability to apply legal requirements to fast-changing, deeply technical work and help enable responsible research and product development.
  • •Familiarity and comfort advising on the EU AI Act, U.S. legislation, GDPR/CCPA, and comparable privacy and AI governance regimes.
  • •Working technical literacy to ask the right questions about how models are trained, evaluated, and deployed and identify legal issues in technical designs.
