Job Summary

Support and maintain Lumen’s fiber network by troubleshooting network equipment, assisting with installation and testing of transport and networking technologies, and restoring service during interruptions. Handle asset management tasks such as replenishing consumables and coordinating shipping/receiving of materials, maintain tools and test sets, and perform preventive maintenance and inspections on critical infrastructure. Learn and use internal trouble ticket, provisioning, and inventory systems to provide accurate updates and reports.

Key Responsibilities

•Troubleshoot network equipment, remove/replace defective equipment, isolate issues, and restore network service while proactively identifying potential problem areas.
•Assist with installation/change/decommission and testing of next-generation technologies (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, IP network layers) and install/test network and CPE for end-user services.
•Use industry standard tools to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.
•Maintain asset management processes including replenishing consumables, coordinating shipping and receiving of materials, and maintaining tools/test sets and network equipment.
•Perform level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment (including HVAC, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants), while updating records and trouble tickets and providing status reports.

Key Requirements

•High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience, including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
•Entry-level technician knowledge/experience in at least one discipline: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), or Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.).
•Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
•Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications, and the ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
•On-call 24x7 rotational standby with call out/dispatch/overtime as required; must have a valid driver’s license and be able to perform physical job duties (including lifting 50 lbs.).
