Job Summary

Design, implement, and oversee Ebury’s global sanctions and export controls compliance framework, setting the organization’s risk appetite and ensuring all cross-border products and transactions meet international requirements. Lead and mentor a global team, act as the ultimate escalation authority for complex, high-risk cases, and provide board-level reporting on evolving regulatory and geopolitical risk. Partner with Financial Crime Tech and Product teams to optimize screening logic and reduce false positives.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and maintain Ebury’s global sanctions and export controls framework, policies, and risk appetite statements aligned to strategic expansion.
•Establish and govern export control protocols for trade finance and cross-border payment operations, including screening and advisory for dual-use and restricted trade.
•Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of regional sanctions managers and advisory officers, fostering continuous learning and operational excellence.
•Act as the primary escalation point for complex, high-risk sanctions and export control matters, determining Ebury’s stance in multi-jurisdictional conflicts.
•Provide board and executive reporting on sanctions and export control risk exposure and oversee strategic direction of global screening platforms with technology partners.

Key Requirements

•10+ years of sanctions and export controls subject matter expertise, leading global programs ideally in fintech, FX, correspondent banking, or trade finance.
•Master-level understanding of global sanctions regimes (OFAC, OFSI, EU, UN) and international export control frameworks, including extraterritoriality and conflicts of law.
•Extensive experience managing, scaling, and inspiring diverse, globally distributed compliance teams.
•Strong ability to align regulatory requirements with fast-paced commercial objectives while protecting the firm’s regulatory standing.
•Highly developed communication and negotiation skills to influence senior executives, board members, and global regulators.
