Job Summary

Promote process improvement and disease prevention to improve swine system health. Diagnose and treat swine conditions surgically or medically, monitor herd health indicators using CQI/SPC methods, and perform testing and vaccinations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local animal welfare and environmental regulations. Advise and train production teams on sanitary measures and animal care, evaluate new technologies for animal health impact, and coordinate with academics and animal health organizations.

Key Responsibilities

•Use CQI/SPC methods to monitor key indicators and develop intervention strategies to improve system health.
•Examine swine to determine the nature of disease or injury and treat animals surgically or medically.
•Test animals for herd health monitoring and inoculate animals against diseases while ensuring regulatory compliance.
•Advise and teach managers/employees on sanitary measures, feeding, and general care to promote animal health.
•Oversee and guide animal health regulatory issues related to production and movement of swine, and evaluate new technologies/products for their impact on production and animal health.

Key Requirements

•Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited school (or currently enrolled student with anticipated graduation by end of the current school year).
•2+ years of experience in veterinary medicine and swine health (preferably in large systems).
•Eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in the states where farms are located within 6 months of hire.
•Current and valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Access/Internet preferred).
