Job Summary

Lead structural design for mine headframes and hoisting infrastructure, from concept through detailed design and construction support. Drive advanced static and dynamic load modelling, structural integrity, and constructability across shaft infrastructure. Own analyses, interfaces, and design outputs including 3D models and clearance diagrams. Build and grow a specialist headframe/hoisting practice for Europe and Africa, support business development, and provide site inspections and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead structural design for headframes, back legs, and collar-level structures from concept through detailed design and construction phases.
•Develop safe, efficient solutions using structural engineering principles for static, dynamic, fatigue, wind, seismic, and operational hoisting loads.
•Undertake load assessments and reviews including hoist/rope–sheave layouts, skip dump arrangements, ground–structure interaction, and temporary/permanent works.
•Integrate hoisting system interfaces and deliver clear GA drawings, 3D models, clearance diagrams, and installation sections.
•Build and grow the practice by recruiting, mentoring, and developing a specialist team; lead workstream strategy for Europe and Africa; support business development and site construction support.

Key Requirements

•Degree-qualified in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering (postgraduate qualification desirable).
•10–15 years’ experience in the structural design of mine headframes/hoisting infrastructure, including temporary and permanent works.
•Strong understanding of structural behaviour under complex loading (dynamic hoist loads, fatigue, wind/seismic, impact, vibration) and ground–structure interaction.
•Proficiency in structural analysis/modelling tools such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, MIDAS, or Robot, with coordination with geotechnical/numerical models.
•Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary teams and ability to communicate and travel within the UK and internationally.
