Key Responsibilities

  • •Monitor personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas to control exposure.
  • •Recommend personnel monitoring devices, protective equipment, and working time for operations and maintenance personnel working with radiation sources.
  • •Read, record, evaluate, and report data from radiation detective devices, air and bioassay sampling.
  • •Investigate cause-and-effect for results exceeding guides, standards, and limits.
  • •Calibrate instruments and operate automated low-background counting equipment; process TLDs, perform lung counts, participate in planning for new processes, and serve on the emergency response organization.

Key Requirements

  • •Associates or higher degree in a technical field with 6-10 years of related experience, or high school diploma with 13-19+ years of relevant experience.
  • •Requires DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification (ability to provide a copy of certification).
  • •Must have current HAZWOPER 40-hour qualification (ability to provide a copy of certification).
  • •Must be able to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling and monitoring results in proper units and terms.
  • •Knowledge of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards, including types of radiation, and ability to recognize and characterize issues vs. standards/limits and plan corrective actions.
