Job Summary

Build and evolve foundational platform infrastructure that underpins Astronomer’s multi-cloud DataOps products. Own platform infrastructure strategy, make key build-vs-buy and technology choices, and deliver production systems designed for real failure modes, latency budgets, and operational maturity. Work hands-on across managed and self-hosted infrastructure, contribute architectural documentation and forums, and collaborate within a globally distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

•Own and develop platform infrastructure strategy, map requirements, make calls, and deliver outcomes.
•Be an owner in deciding what the team works on and how it works, making and keeping promises.
•Perform principled build-vs-buy assessments and advocate for appropriate tools.
•Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and decision records for systems and processes, and participate in architectural forums.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 275,000 - 377,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Deep production distributed-systems experience, including failure modes, consistency/availability tradeoffs, failure cascades, backpressure, and graceful degradation.
•Operator-level Kubernetes knowledge, including what happens inside the scheduler/control loop and operating clusters under real load.
•Strong Go proficiency, with experience building and shipping production systems in Go.
•Multi-cloud architectural decision-making across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure, evaluating tradeoffs and living with outcomes in production.
•Experience defining requirements and driving technology choices across an engineering organization, not just executing them.
