Key Responsibilities

•Architect and own the Contacts domain, modeling people, businesses, and bank accounts within a complex distributed system.
•Own scalability and performance for Wise Platform APIs used by banks and enterprises.
•Define and influence the product roadmap in partnership with Product Management, balancing speed, security, and long-term architecture.
•Grow and lead a large engineering team, mentoring engineers and developing future leaders.
•Collaborate cross-functionally with Regional teams, Wise Platform, and other functions to align roadmaps with the wider Wise strategy.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 135,000 - 175,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Strong technical background in backend engineering (Java ecosystem preferred) with a track record designing complex distributed systems.
•Leadership experience with hiring, performance management, and coaching of a large team; able to delegate effectively to senior engineers.
•Product mindset with ability to map technical work to business goals and customer value.
•Strategic thinking to plan long-term technical strategy for a critical domain.
•Excellent communication skills, able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
