Job Summary

Design and build powerflow and optimisation engines for Gridsight's grid-management platform. Solve constrained optimisation problems related to grid operations, resource dispatch, and network management; translate network physics into optimisation constraints; develop real-time or near-real-time solutions; collaborate with the Grid Modelling team to produce production-ready models and contribute to the data science strategy.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop powerflow engines for grid modelling and forecasting
•Solve constrained optimisation problems related to grid operations, resource dispatch, and network management
•Design optimisation solutions that balance safety, efficiency, customer impact, and operational constraints
•Collaborate with the grid modelling team to formulate network models and constraints as optimisation problems
•Build scalable optimisation solutions that perform in real-time or near-real-time contexts and establish best practices for model development and monitoring

Pay and Benefits

Salary: AUD 160,000 - 220,000 annually

Key Requirements

•5+ years in data science/ML/optimisation roles with demonstrated impact
•Powerflow and/or optimisation expertise, including AC OPF calculations and open-source tools such as OpenDSS, pandapower, lf-energy
•Constrained optimisation, operations research, or similar (linear programming, convex optimisation, MILP); familiarity with solvers/frameworks like Pyomo, CBC, Gurobi, CPLEX, OR-Tools
•Proficiency in Python; capable of writing quality code for optimisation algorithms and data analysis; understanding of system design, version control, testing, CI/CD
•Strong collaboration skills and ability to translate network models into optimisation problems for production use
•Nice to have: grid domain knowledge, real-time optimisation systems experience, familiarity with Databricks
