Key Responsibilities

  • •Independently lead and oversee Model Risk Management initiatives that impact execution of the Model Risk Management program, including delivery and review of validation reporting and insights.
  • •Own the Model Validation program and processes, implementing changes through templates, job aids, procedures, and training based on feedback from QA/QC, management, audit, and best practices.
  • •Advise executive leadership on critical model matters that may impact the Association and/or key business decisions.
  • •Ensure strategic alignment of deliverables and propose/implement model governance guidance to improve process improvement, efficiency, and consistency.
  • •Mentor and train Model Validators on new industry insights and changes, maintain model risk management subject-matter expertise, and represent USAA in external industry groups aligned to risk/statistical/quantitative disciplines.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics (or related quantitative field), or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required.
  • •10 years of progressive financial services risk experience including 6 years in model validation, model development, statistical analysis, and/or advanced quantitative research (or 8 years if you have an advanced degree, including 6 years in those areas).
  • •Strong programming skills in R, Python, SAS, Java, C, and/or SQL for model specifications, assumption testing, data quality assessments, variable selection, back-testing, and benchmarking.
  • •Deep subject-matter expertise using predictive/statistical and econometric approaches (e.g., regression, forecasting, stress testing, logistic regression, simulation, neural networks/deep learning, Bayesian estimators).
  • •Experience collaborating with stakeholders, influencing decisions, and sharing model governance guidance with peers.
