Key Responsibilities

  • •Own product architecture across the LV/MV switchgear, BBU, and busway lineup, including the frame-size and bus-rating matrix that covers most demand with the fewest SKUs.
  • •Run the certification strategy end to end, managing NRTL relationships, test campaign sequencing, lab bookings, and budgets for failed-shot costs.
  • •Lead the gear design team across EE, ME, controls, and drafting, including team structure and staffing decisions.
  • •Set the ratings philosophy and design standards (short-circuit, withstand, temperature-rise) to pass witness testing on the first campaign.
  • •Make make-vs-buy recommendations per product category, including decisions not to build certain categories based on cost, schedule, and certification risk math.

Key Requirements

  • •12+ years designing switchgear and electrical equipment, including leading design teams at an OEM (Powell, IEM, Eaton, ABB, or equivalent).
  • •Have taken gear through UL 891/1558 or IEC 61439 listing and supported witness testing at labs such as KEMA or PowerTech-class facilities.
  • •Experience with short-circuit test failures: drove root cause and led the redesign through successful retesting.
  • •Owned product architecture across an LV/MV lineup, including BBU integration and the certification path for each integration option.
  • •Can structure and staff a gear design team (e.g., a 9-person team) as the lineup expands.
