Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead initiatives in Elasticsearch to deliver an industry-leading search engine with high speed and relevance.
  • •Build new vector and search features and fix complex bugs while making the codebase easier to understand.
  • •Collaborate with globally distributed engineers to improve Elasticsearch’s vector search capabilities.
  • •Act as an expert on search relevance by identifying and driving improvements based on investigation and instincts.

Key Requirements

  • •Experience implementing novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or prior academic progress in vector similarity information retrieval.
  • •Professional experience with search or vector databases at scale, including use of algorithms such as HNSW, IVF, or similar libraries.
  • •Strong core Java skills and familiarity with standard data structures and concurrency constructs, including lambdas.
  • •Ability to take projects from beginning to end with high autonomy, covering both technical design and collaboration to deliver components.
  • •Comfort working collaboratively with code review feedback and driving outcomes in a distributed environment using asynchronous communication.
