Job Summary

Support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the Smithfield Foods St James site by helping manage inspections, environmental permitting, and process safety requirements for an ammonia refrigeration system. Track and report key EHS KPIs (OSHA/environmental violations, incidents, turnover, and workers’ compensation), assist incident investigations, and support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 documentation and compliance. Provide training and ensure adherence to safety and environmental permit plans.

Key Responsibilities

•Support management of location EHS programs, including program updates, equipment/process inspections, and applications for environmental permits to avoid lapses in coverage.
•Support compliance with Process Safety Management/Risk Management requirements for the ammonia refrigeration system and help ensure the Site Security Plan is followed.
•Gather and track EHS KPIs (OSHA/environmental violations, incident rates, employee turnover, workers’ compensation claims, audit results) and help ensure incident investigations and exposure surveys are completed with action-item closure.
•Support ISO certification management and documentation control requirements, ensuring conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and help maintain SIPS and EMS programs.
•Provide training and support compliance with OSHA and environmental permits, report non-compliance for correction/re-training, and help assess location compliance with safety processes and permit plans.

Travel: Low travel

•High school diploma or GED and 2+ years of relevant experience.
•Experience handling multiple assignments, setting goals, and meeting schedules.
•Ability to work long hours, weekends, and remain on-call when required.
•Occasional travel to collaborate with others.
•Demonstrated computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to write reports and procedures in English.
