Serve as the senior deck rating on a Defence Maritime vessel, supporting safe vessel operations, maintenance, and cargo handling. Lead and supervise deck ratings, assist the Master with compliance across company and maritime safety/security requirements, and manage cargo loading/unloading. Maintain vessel readiness, cleanliness, and equipment records, and run toolbox talks to strengthen safety culture and support daily operational planning.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and supervise deck ratings to ensure tasks are completed safely, professionally, and in line with operating procedures and risk assessments.
•Support the Master with safe and efficient vessel operation while complying with company, Flag State, Classification Society, ISPS, and ISM requirements.
•Manage cargo loading and unloading activities according to approved cargo plans and operational requirements.
•Maintain cleanliness, upkeep, and readiness of vessel accommodation, deck areas, bridge spaces, and working environments.
•Monitor lifting equipment, keep accurate records, and ensure equipment is available for testing and certification; conduct toolbox talks and support safety committees and daily operational planning.

Key Requirements

•Hold an Able Seafarer (AB) Certificate of Competence and relevant STCW certifications including Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid, and Survival Craft proficiency.
•Hold a valid ENG1 medical certificate.
•Have experience working in maritime deck operations, including cargo handling, vessel maintenance, and deck watchkeeping duties.
•Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders to achieve safe outcomes.
•Take pride in delivering high standards, demonstrate personal drive, and adapt to changing operational requirements.
