Job Summary

Lead product design work for Dyson’s Research Design and Development team, driving assemblies and prototypes from concept through delivery to production. Plan and prioritize technical tasks by risk and interdependencies, define measurable design requirements, and de-risk high-risk engineering problems with strong documentation. Review CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications (including tolerance stack and design-for-X), analyze test failures, and lead sustaining improvements to quality, cost, and throughput.

•Deliver product design and assemblies to production on time, on cost, on quality, and on specification.
•Plan and prioritize engineering tasks based on risk level, resolution, maturity, and interdependencies.
•Specify design requirements with clear, measurable objectives and de-risk high-risk engineering problems with strong design documentation.
•Review and approve detailed design specifications including 3D models, CAD drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications (including tolerance stack and design-for-X).
•Manage building functional prototypes for testing and demonstration, then analyze test failures to develop solutions and lead sustaining improvements.

Key Requirements

•Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a science discipline (or equivalent).
•8+ years’ experience in product development/design using plastic, rubber, or metal across complex technical problems.
•Experience applying DFM, DFA, and DFC considerations to design and manufacturing.
•Practical knowledge of 3D CAD and 2D drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack.
•Ability to lead a project team or work as an independent contributor delivering to time, cost, and specification.
