Key Responsibilities

  • •Undertake the statutory CDM Principal Designer role for HV and EHV projects, ensuring compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations during the design phase.
  • •Lead and coordinate the project design phase by managing multidisciplinary design teams, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders for safe, coordinated, compliant delivery.
  • •Oversee development and review of technical specifications and design deliverables for substation upgrades and new build projects (11kV to 132kV).
  • •Manage the design risk process and facilitate identification, assessment, elimination, reduction, and communication of health, safety, and operational risks.
  • •Chair and facilitate design review meetings and hazard workshops, providing design governance and assurance, and support construction by managing design changes and residual design risks.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, with significant experience designing and delivering HV and EHV infrastructure projects.
  • •Proven experience undertaking the Principal Designer role under the CDM Regulations, including design risk management and construction health and safety requirements.
  • •Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams through the full design lifecycle.
  • •Strong technical knowledge of HV and EHV substations, including AIS and GIS installations (11kV to 132kV).
  • •Knowledge of engineering standards and legislation for HV and EHV substations, including electrical clearances, earthing, and safety-by-design principles.
